US Secretary of state Michael Pompeo will travel to the UN headquarters in new York to notify the Security Council of Washington’s decision to reinstate sanctions against Iran. This is reported by TASS.

The state Department said restrictions will be restored in 30 days. The requirement that Iran suspend all activities related to uranium enrichment will also come into force again.

The Ministry clarified that Washington’s notification was the result of the fact that the American draft resolution on extending the arms embargo against Iran on August 14 did not receive the necessary number of votes in the UN security Council: the majority of countries abstained in the vote, and Russia and China opposed it.

Pompeo will also meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during his trip to discuss Iran and other issues of “common concern.”

The UN Security Council rejected a us resolution to extend the arms embargo against Iran. US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that now the world sponsor of terrorism will be able to freely sell and buy conventional weapons. He also assured that the US will continue to work to restrict the export of weapons from Iran and imports to the country.

The US has repeatedly demanded an extension of the ban on arms deliveries to Iran, which expires on October 18, 2020, in accordance with the terms of the so-called Tehran nuclear deal with the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany. At the same time, in 2018, the American side announced its withdrawal from this agreement and threatened Iran with additional sanctions.
